Gift Guide #4: Living in a Nancy Meyers Movie
a.k.a. the one about the dreamiest film sets & Amazon Affiliate Jail

Last week I made the trip up to an idyllic coastal town in New England. So many houses looked as though they’d been plucked from a Nancy Meyers movie, and that got me thinking about the absolute vibe that is “Nancy Meyers” when it comes to interior design.
If you are unacquainted with the talent of Ms. Meyers, publications like Architectural Digest and Homes and Gardens break down her magical ability to create an inviting movie set that nearly distracts you from the film.
The details in Nancy’s rooms are so layered and nuanced, the sets are reason enough to rewatch her movies. Rooms appear lived-in without feeling cluttered or too staged. The sets build out the main characters’ lives in such a powerful way that you half expect each room to get a credit as a supporting character.
Google “Nancy Meyers Living Room,” and you’ll see I am not alone in my desire to bring her aesthetic into my life. When I am fortunate to see a bit of Nancy in the wild, I make note.
The home I visited in New England, for example, had major Nancy Meyers vibes. As I soaked in the surroundings of that glorious home, I tried to articulate precisely what it is about Nancy’s style that puts me in a relaxed state of mind. Perhaps it’s the fact that the décor is thoughtful and intentionally centered around making guests feel welcome. There is a place to put your drink (tiny cocktail tables FTW), the lighting makes you look your very best (let’s hear it for lamp o’clock), and you have ample space to sit back and relax on a wide and inviting couch.
We can all use a bit of feeling cared for by our homes these days, can’t we? In an effort to invite a the thoughtfulness that is The Nancy Meyers Aesthetic into our homes, I present to you a gift guide inspired by Ms. Meyers.
This Sea Salt candle wrapped in glass and rattan may come from a small mother-daughter company based on a Kentucky farm, but the look is 100% Hamptons approved. Which means it’s also Nancy approved.
Someone with heaps of experience in interior design once told me furniture in a room should seem as though it is having a conversation. The furniture layout will direct people on where to sit. I also appreciate when furniture tells people where I can put my drink. Enter one of my favorite inventions: the tiny drink pedestal. Personally, I’d opt for a dark or brass, but this antique nickel tiny table for drinks feels more Nancy.
Plants play a large role in giving a room life, and while these hydrangeas are artificial they fit the bill for this project because they are full and bursting with texture.
Lamps will make or break your effort to channel Nancy. Let’s review a few options, shall we? This small sconce situation is graceful and can hide a puck light if you can’t be bothered with wiring it into the wall. And here’s a sophisticated pair of traditional table lamps sure to get a thumbs up from Nancy.
Obvs you’re gonna need a Bunny Williams coffee table book for this endeavor.
When it comes to setting the table, this set of disposable plates with a gorgeous green floral design will help us channel the welcome-to-my-cottage-in-the-Cotswolds vibe. (Dreaming of the sets in The Holiday for this one.)
Since so much of the Nancy Meyers look centers around comfort, we’ve got to throw, ahem, a cozy cable knit throw blanket into this list.
Friends of ours have a beach home in Delaware that has major Nancy vibes. Part of what makes their home so special for guests are the little touches of comfort that grace each room. Luxurious linens, sound machines in the bedrooms, and matching coasters atop every surface that encourage you to put your drink right here, sit back, and relax.
Yours truly is shaping up to be the world’s worst Amazon Affiliate. So much so that I am likely to lose my “Affiliate” status soon for lack of sales. But so be it! I was curious about the program, and I tried it, so that’s a win. I used Amazon Affiliate links in this post. Maybe for the last time? If you choose to make a purchase, I thank you kindly! Especially if it gets me out of Amazon Affiliate Jail.
Ahh, Nancy Myers sure knows hot to put a room together! Fun post, E!
