These slow-roasted sweet potatoes would be perfect for a certain big meal coming up soon…or dinner tonight.
The 25 most important American recipes of the past 100 years. Which is your favorite? I think I might have to say Chicken Marbella & a big thank you to my friend K for introducing that perfect dish to me!
I probably shouldn’t say this to any procrastinators out there, but handing in work early isn’t going to earn you any brownie points, according to research. Handing in work late, however, can negatively impact the perceived quality of your work.
When I returned home after a year working in Northern Ireland, the U.S. economy had decided she had about had enough and was just going to take a nap, thank you very much. Jobs were scarce, money was tight, and all that meant I got to eat a whole bunch of humble pie while taking some odd jobs. In the midst of this grey and cloudy season, I found myself at home with my parents during usual business hours. My dad and I fell into a habit of watching Gilmore Girls on weekday mornings for a few months, and though he would groan about Lorelei and Luke’s annoying banter, the show became an odd lifeline for me, and a funny sort of bonding experience for us. When I saw Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore!) wrote a book about her life, I was intrigued. I hatched a plan with another friend who found solace and joy in the show to read Kelly’s book and then virtually attend her D.C. book signing event.
An option for holiday cards that aren’t replicas of cards everyone else will be sending this year.
Speaking of holidays, if you observe advent there are so many wonderful devotionals for adults and littles available now. Here are a few I’ve found that might interest you. Paul Tripp’s “Come Let Us Adore Him”, Tsh Oxenreider’s “Shadow & Light”, and the book I turn to every year, Advent by She Reads Truth might be good for adults. For kids, I’ve enjoyed gifting Good Kind’s Advent Blocks and these conversation cards. If you’re looking for a list of ways to celebrate Hanukkah with littles, here is a collection of recipes, videos, and a free activity book.
Apparently, Crows can hold a grudge. Here’s a NYTimes article about these brainy birds with chips on their shoulders that reminds me of The Grey Lady’s former glory (sigh) via someone else’s gift link.
